Windows, Doors, Conservatories and Glass in Camberley

Fitting windows, doors and conservatories across Surrey Heath since 1972, from Camberley and Frimley out to Bagshot, Lightwater and Windlesham.

Installed by our own FENSA registered team, not subcontractors. Showroom in Guildford, around 12 miles down the A322.

Camberley is a town the army built. The Royal Military College opened at Sandhurst in 1812, the Staff College followed around 1862, and the two settlements that grew up around them were only named Camberley in 1877. That history is still in the housing, and it is why no two streets here need the same answer.

We cover GU15, GU16, GU17, GU18, GU19 and GU20, and we repair work other companies fitted as readily as we fit our own.

Camberley's housing, and what it means for your windows

Camberley has four distinct housing stories layered on top of each other. Victorian building driven by two military colleges and the 1878 railway. A 1950s London overspill estate at Old Dean. Late twentieth century suburb. And a ring of outer villages on the Chobham Ridges heathland, where a 1,200 home new build neighbourhood is going up on a demolished barracks.

Around 28 per cent of Camberley’s homes are detached and nearly 23 per cent are flats, so the answer varies as much within the town as across the borough.

Part of the borough What is typically there What usually suits it
Camberley town centre, Yorktown, St Michaels, St Pauls The Victorian core, built from the 1840s onwards around the Royal Military College and the Staff College, and accelerating after the railway arrived in 1878. Plus flats above retail in and around the Atrium Vertical sliding sash and flush casement in timber or timber alternative for the period stock. Replacement sealed units and tilt and turn for the flats
Old Dean A 1950s and 1960s London overspill estate, built for families displaced from bombed parts of London, with eight London boroughs commemorated in the street names: Carshalton, Esher, Kingston, Mitcham, Surbiton, Sutton, Wallington and Wimbledon. Mainly semi detached and terraced, with maisonettes on the northern edge, much of it now owner occupied Slimline uPVC casements, which give you more glass and a better U value in the same aperture. Composite front doors. The most common job we do in Camberley
Heatherside, Parkside, Watchetts Mid to late twentieth century suburban estate housing, largely sharing the GU16 postcode with Frimley Standard and slimline uPVC casements, composite doors, and bifolding or sliding patio doors where the garden takes them
Frimley, Frimley Green, Mytchett Frimley is the largest and most commercial settlement in GU16, with Saxon origins and four centuries as a coaching stop. Mytchett is almost entirely twentieth century, from the 1900s crossroads settlement onward. Frimley Green has unusually high owner occupation, over 82 per cent owned outright or on a mortgage A settled, improvement minded market. Slimline casements, composite and timber doors, conservatories and orangeries onto the canal side gardens
Deepcut, Bagshot, Lightwater, Windlesham Outer villages on the heathland. Lightwater has grown rapidly with estate housing since 1960. Bagshot has a conservation area and Grade II listed St Anne’s Church. Windlesham runs from substantial detached houses to the very top of the market. Deepcut is being rebuilt as Mindenhurst, 1,200 new homes on the former Princess Royal Barracks Timber and timber alternative for the Bagshot conservation area. Bifolding and sliding patio doors, orangeries and roof lanterns on the larger plots. Aluminium for the new build at Mindenhurst

If you are not sure which of these your house sits in, send us a photo of the front elevation and we will tell you what we would fit and why, before anyone comes out.

Do I need permission to replace my windows in Camberley?

Usually not. Replacing windows in a house is normally permitted development, and that still applies inside a conservation area. It changes if your house is listed, or if Surrey Heath Borough Council has made an Article 4 direction covering your street, which withdraws permitted development rights. Flats and maisonettes are treated differently to houses.

Bagshot has a conservation area, containing the Grade II listed St Anne’s Church. Other parts of the borough are covered too. We check the position on your address as part of the survey rather than leaving it with you.

Heathland, the green belt and what it means for extensions

Much of Surrey Heath is Metropolitan Green Belt, and the borough contains five Sites of Special Scientific Interest, four of which form part of the Thames Basin Heaths Special Protection Area. That matters less for replacing windows than for building anything new. If you are planning a conservatory, an orangery or a garden room, the planning position is worth establishing early, and we will tell you what we think before you commit to a design.

What we fit in conservation areas

  • Secondary glazing, which sits behind the original window and changes nothing about how the house looks from the street
  • Timber and timber alternative flush casements, which sit flush in the frame the way pre war windows did
  • Vertical sliding sash windows in timber, timber alternative or uPVC
  • Mock sash, where the look matters more than the mechanism and the budget is tighter
  • Heritage colour ranges and traditional ironmongery

Expertise You Can Trust

Proudly serving Surrey since 1972, we’re a family-run glazing company offering quality windows, doors, conservatories, and bespoke glass solutions. Whether you’re upgrading your home’s look with double glazing, choosing a new front door, or planning a unique orangery, our team is here to bring your vision to life.

Why Camberley homeowners choose Sheerwater Glass

  • Fifty years in this part of Surrey. We started in 1972 in Sheerwater and have been fitting across Surrey Heath ever since. That is longer than most of our competitors have existed.
  • Our own installers do the work. FENSA registered, City and Guilds and GQA qualified, employed by us. Nobody is subcontracted, so the person who surveys your house works for the same company as the person who fits it.
  • We know the Old Dean stock. A large part of what we fit in Camberley is replacement glazing on 1950s and 1960s estate housing, and we know what fits those apertures and what does not.
  • We will fix what someone else fitted. Misted units, dropped doors, failed hinges and locks. You do not need to have bought from us, and the company that fitted it does not need to still exist.
  • The guarantee is insurance backed. 10 years on frames, glass and workmanship, underwritten by QA National Warranty, so your cover survives even if we are not here to honour it.

How long does an installation in Camberley take?

Around 8 to 10 weeks from order to fitting, and 1 to 2 days on site for most jobs. Here is the whole sequence.

Stage How long
Enquiry to home visit As little as 2 working days
Home visit to quotation 2 working days, up to 5 for specialist items
Order to technical survey Up to 10 working days
Order to installation Generally 8 to 10 weeks
Time on site Typically 1 to 2 days for a full house
Do you need to move out? No. You stay in the house throughout

You get a fitting date when you order, not a window of weeks. If a delivery slips, we call you before you have to call us.

Why quotes are valid for 14 days

Glass manufacturing is heavily energy dependent, so our costs move with energy prices. Rather than pad every quotation against a rise that may not happen, we quote the real number on the day. If it lapses, come back whenever you are ready and we will requote free of charge.

Camberley: your questions answered

Do you cover my part of Camberley?

Yes. We cover Camberley, Old Dean, Heatherside, Parkside, Watchetts, Yorktown, Frimley, Frimley Green, Mytchett, Deepcut, Lightwater, Bagshot, Windlesham, Bisley, Chobham and West End. That is GU15 to GU20. We also work across the border in Blackwater, Hawley, Sandhurst and College Town.

I live in Blackwater. Is that Camberley or Hampshire?

Both, in a way, and it catches people out. Blackwater’s post town is Camberley and its postcode is GU17, but administratively it sits in Hart district, Hampshire. Sandhurst and College Town are GU47 and sit in Bracknell Forest, Berkshire. We cover all of them, so it makes no difference to us, but it matters when you are dealing with planning.

Where is your nearest showroom to Camberley?

Unit B5, Moorfield Point, 41 Slyfield Industrial Estate, Guildford, GU1 1RU. Around 12 miles, roughly half an hour down the A322. Parking on site and no appointment needed.

Do I need planning permission to replace my windows in Camberley?

Usually not. Replacing windows in a house is normally permitted development, including inside a conservation area. It changes if your house is listed, or if Surrey Heath Borough Council has made an Article 4 direction covering your street. Bagshot has a conservation area containing the listed St Anne’s Church. We check the position at the survey.

My house is on the Old Dean estate. What do you normally fit?

Slimline uPVC casements, most of the time. Old Dean was built in the 1950s and 1960s as London overspill housing, mainly semi detached and terraced, and the original apertures are a good size. A slimline frame gives you noticeably more glass and a better U value in the same opening, without altering the look of the street. Composite front doors are the other common job there.

Do you work in Mindenhurst at Deepcut?

Yes. Mindenhurst is the 1,200 home neighbourhood being built on the former Princess Royal Barracks site. New build glazing is normally still under the developer’s warranty at first, but we fit upgrades, replacement sealed units, roof lanterns and bifolding doors there as houses change hands.

Can you repair windows and doors another company fitted?

Yes. Misted or blown sealed units, dropped or sticking doors, failed hinges, handles and locks, broken glass, VELUX faults and traditional putty glazing. You do not need to have bought the original installation from us and the company that fitted it does not need to still exist.

Can I buy just one piece of glass?

Yes. We cut glass to order: replacement sealed units, mirrors, splashbacks, shelves, table tops, shower screens, greenhouse glass and safety glass. Bring your measurements to the glass and repairs surgery in Guildford, Tuesday and Thursday 2pm to 5pm or Saturday 9am to 1pm.

Will I get a FENSA certificate?

Yes, automatically, on every installation that qualifies. Our installers are FENSA registered, so your work is self certified for building regulations. You will need the certificate when you sell the house.

Is Surrey Heath Borough Council changing?

Yes. From April 2027, Surrey’s twelve councils are being replaced by two unitary authorities. Surrey Heath joins Spelthorne, Runnymede, Woking, Guildford and Waverley in a new West Surrey authority. Practically, that means Camberley and our Guildford showroom will be in the same council area.
