Middlesex was abolished as a county in 1965 and stopped being used as a postal county in 1996, but a great many people still write it and a great many houses were built when it existed. Which is fine. What matters practically is which council you are actually in, and whether a company can reach you.
We cover the Thames end of historic Middlesex: Staines, Ashford, Sunbury, Shepperton, Stanwell and Laleham, which are in Surrey today, and out towards Feltham and Hounslow. We are not going to pretend we are your local installer in Harrow or Enfield.

Middlesex was abolished on 1 April 1965 by the London Government Act 1963, the same Act that created Greater London. Its lieutenancy and magistracy went the following year, so it is not a ceremonial county either. Royal Mail kept “Middlesex” in postal addresses for another three decades, but postal counties stopped being used for sorting in 1996 and were deleted from the address file in 2000. Under Royal Mail’s flexible addressing policy you can still write it and it will simply be ignored.
The county itself went three ways. Most of it became outer London boroughs. The Staines and Sunbury end went to Surrey. Potters Bar went to Hertfordshire.

Usually not. Replacing windows in a house is normally permitted development, and that still applies inside a conservation area. It changes if your house is listed, or if your council has made an Article 4 direction covering your street. Flats and maisonettes are treated differently to houses.
There is no Middlesex council to apply to. In Spelthorne it is Spelthorne Borough Council. In the London boroughs it is the borough, with the Mayor of London’s London Plan sitting above it as a strategic layer. Worth knowing: **Spelthorne is not covered by the London Plan** despite being almost entirely inside the M25, because it is Surrey.

Heathrow sits in Hillingdon and shapes the acoustic environment across Hounslow, Hillingdon and Spelthorne. A great deal of the postwar housing at Staines and Stanwell was built for airport workers, and a great deal of it is still under a flight path.
Acoustic glazing uses a wider cavity and, usually, laminated glass with an acoustic interlayer. Secondary glazing is often more effective still, because the air gap between the two panes is much wider than anything achievable in a sealed unit. Neither will make an aircraft inaudible, because sound also comes through walls, roofs and vents.

The Metropolitan Green Belt covers a surprising share of the outer west London boroughs: around 43 per cent of Hillingdon, 38 per cent of Enfield, 22 per cent of both Hounslow and Harrow, and 6 per cent of Ealing on 2017 and 2018 government figures. That matters more for conservatories and extensions than for windows, but it is why a glazed extension needs the planning position established before the design.

You get a fitting date when you order, not a window of weeks. If a delivery slips, we call you before you have to call us.
Glass manufacturing is heavily energy dependent, so our costs move with energy prices. Rather than pad every quotation against a rise that may not happen, we quote the real number on the day. If it lapses, come back whenever you are ready and we will requote free of charge.

Unit B5, Moorfield Point, 41 Slyfield Industrial Estate, Guildford, GU1 1RU. From Staines it is around 18 miles, realistically 35 to 45 minutes. From Hounslow or Feltham it is a similar trip. From Harrow or Enfield it is a very long way and we would not expect you to make it.

Not administratively. It was abolished on 1 April 1965 by the London Government Act 1963, which also created Greater London, and its lieutenancy and magistracy went the following year. There is no Middlesex council, no county council and no Lord Lieutenant. The name survives in cricket, rugby and football, and in a great many addresses.
It depends on your postcode. TW15 to TW19 puts you in Spelthorne Borough Council, Surrey. TW1 to TW14 puts you in Hounslow or Richmond upon Thames. UB is mostly Hillingdon, HA is Harrow, Brent or Hillingdon, and EN is Enfield. There is no Middlesex authority to apply to for anything.

Harrow, Pinner, Wembley and Enfield are 30 to 45 miles away and you will get better service from someone closer. Check your postcode for a straight answer.
