What Is a FENSA Certificate?

A FENSA certificate is official proof that your replacement windows or external glazed doors meet building regulations for safety, energy efficiency, and legal compliance in England and Wales.

You’ll get one automatically when you use a FENSA-approved installer like Sheerwater Glass, if your installation meets the scheme criteria.

What’s Covered?

FENSA covers replacement of:

  • External windows
  • External doors (with more than 50% glass)
  • Roof windows
  • Roof lights

Important: Only external doors with more than 50% glass qualify for FENSA registration. If your door contains less than 50% glazing, a certificate will not be issued.

You’ll still receive a Sheerwater Glass QANW insurance-backed guarantee, your installation is still protected.

What FENSA Doesn’t Cover

You will not receive a FENSA certificate if your project involves:

  • New conservatories
  • New or unheated porches
  • New builds or extensions
  • Repairs that don’t involve full frame replacement
  • Commercial properties

Not sure if your installation qualifies? Just ask, we’ll explain exactly what applies.

Why Does It Matter?

A valid FENSA certificate gives you:

  • Legal proof your installation meets UK building regs
  • Registration with your local authority, no extra paperwork
  • Faster, smoother property sales in future
  • Peace of mind from professional, audited installers
