Berkshire is really two counties. The east is Thames Valley and M4 corridor: Slough, Reading, Bracknell, Windsor, Maidenhead, high tech employers and a housing stock that runs from Victorian terraces to a 1949 new town. The west is chalk downland, racehorse training and North Wessex Downs, and around three quarters of West Berkshire carries a National Landscape designation.
We work the eastern and southern end of it, the part nearest to us. We will tell you honestly if you are outside that.

Berkshire has had no county council since 1998. It is six unitary authorities: Bracknell Forest, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Windsor and Maidenhead, and Wokingham. Which one you are in changes who you deal with for planning, and the housing varies just as much.

Usually not. Replacing windows in a house is normally permitted development, and that still applies inside a conservation area. It changes if your house is listed, or if your council has made an Article 4 direction covering your street, which withdraws permitted development rights. Flats and maisonettes are treated differently to houses.
Berkshire has no county council, so the authority you deal with is one of six unitaries: Bracknell Forest, Reading, Slough, West Berkshire, Windsor and Maidenhead, or Wokingham. We establish which applies to your address at the survey.
The North Wessex Downs National Landscape, designated in 1972 and covering around 1,730 square kilometres, spans Berkshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire. In Berkshire it covers the west of the county: around three quarters of West Berkshire district, taking in the Berkshire Downs and the horse racing village of Lambourn, and reaching as far east as the suburbs of Reading.
It does not cover Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead, Bracknell, Wokingham or Ascot. Anyone telling you Berkshire has a county wide AONB has not checked. The Chilterns, which people often assume covers part of Berkshire, does not extend into the county at all.
Green belt coverage varies enormously across Berkshire: around 83 per cent of Windsor and Maidenhead, 35 per cent of Bracknell Forest, and 16 per cent of both Wokingham and Slough on 2014 government figures. That matters far more for conservatories, orangeries and garden rooms than for replacing windows, but it is why a glazed extension needs the planning position established before the design rather than after.

You get a fitting date when you order, not a window of weeks. If a delivery slips, we call you before you have to call us.
Glass manufacturing is heavily energy dependent, so our costs move with energy prices. Rather than pad every quotation against a rise that may not happen, we quote the real number on the day. If it lapses, come back whenever you are ready and we will requote free of charge.

From Ascot it is around 17 miles. From Bracknell and Sandhurst it is a similar trip. From Reading it is further, and from Newbury further still, so if you are at the western end we would rather measure and quote at home than have you make the drive.

It depends on the material, the style and how many windows you are replacing, so any figure quoted before a survey is guesswork. What we can tell you is that the quotation is free, it is written, it is valid for 14 days, and there is no obligation attached to it. Finance is available over terms up to 10 years through Dopple if you would rather spread it.
